“Our walking itself cannot create peace. But when someone encounters us—whether by the roadside, online, or through a friend—when our message touches something deep within them, when it awakens the peace that has always lived quietly in their own heart—something sacred begins to unfold.“
–from the Walk for Peace website
On October 23, 2025, twenty Buddhist monks and one dog set out on foot from the Huong Dao Vipassana Bhavana Center in Fort Worth Texas on a 2,300 mile journey to Washington, DC. Their walk expresses a commitment to practicing and sharing peace and compassion for all beings. Their path brought them to Richmond on Monday, February 2, 2026.
📝 This article by Max Posner at The Richmonder is the best I’ve seen on this event. For one, he makes the effort to identify the monks by name. He posted on February 2.
